Bratati was born to Maya and Manjul Kumar Bandyopadhyay, in Kolkata. She could remember around 300 odd nursery rhymes at the age of three as her parents recalled.
Dream Realised
Bratati had a dream of taking poetry to every corner of the country. She wished to take poetry from the elites to common people, from proscenium to day to day life.
The Journey
Bratati gave more than two thousand recitals in India and abroad. The year 1996 created a landmark in Bengali elocution. Her first three-hour solo recital Ek Sandhyay Eka Bratati.

As Bratati puts it, her passion and her profession are one and the same. Cultivation of poetry, new experiments and innovative projects are parts and parcels of her life.

Bratati Parampara
Bratati Parampara is a Kolkata-based organization headed by Bratati Bandyopadhyay, an internationally acclaimed spoken word artist of Bengal. Bratati Parampara started its journey 30 years ago with the name 'Kabyayan'. A major part of Kabyayan came under the ageis of Bratati Parampara. It was set up in 2015 with an objective of promotion of cultural and educational activities.

Her parents Maya and Manjul Kumar Bandyopadhyay in recalling Bratati’s infancy and early childhood marvel at her phenomenal memory even at the age of three, by which time she had learnt by heart and could recite upwards of 300 nursery rhymes and short poems. She had made her first stage appearance with a difficult poem by Kazi Nazrul Islam. What was evident even at that tender age was Bratati’s fascination for sound and rhyme, images and tunes and her own effort at interpreting them in a manner rare in one so young...
